How Moovby is empowering young Malaysian entrepreneurs

If someone told you there's a way to earn some extra side income without lifting a finger or harnessing any brainpower, would you believe them? Meet Moovby, a Malaysian-grown car sharing marketplace, which allows you to rent out your car for as little as 3 hours a day. Just imagine, instead of having to pay for parking while you're stuck at the office for 9 hours a day, you could be earning money instead! 

 

In fact, that's exactly how the idea for Moovby came about. It all started when a junior of founder and CEO Nik Muhammad Amin asked if he could rent Nik's car for a few hours. At the time, Nik had just purchased a superbike and was not using his car as much as he used to. That was the lightbulb moment for Nik as he realised that idle cars could be making money for their owners, instead of gathering dust.

 

Moovby is best described as a car-sharing platform due to the fact that hosts and renters are equally responsible for the car. Hosts are required to maintain their cars in tip-top condition; while renters are responsible for topping up the fuel back to its original level, as well as any summons received. 

Hosts can also opt to have the renters come and collect the car from them, instead of delivering it to the renter's location. A truly convenient setup!  

 

What do hosts think? 

Moovby host, Lokman Daly, admitted that initially he had his doubts about renting his car out, but felt reassured by the fact that all renters were recorded by the system, including their IC and license. 

Similarly, fellow Moovby host Dayana Zahari was nervous to rent out her car for the first time, but soon fell in love with the system. "It's a great way to earn extra cash, with prompt responses from customer service! I also love how the app shows your earnings payout by month so you know when you will earn and can plan your personal income accordingly."

Lokman has a 2020 Proton Saga and a 2021 Toyota Vios on Moovby and aims to make RM2,000 a month. Meanwhile, Dayana rents out a Myvi and her target is at least RM1,000 a month. 

Currently, there are over 5,000 cars on the platform, ranging from Proton and Perodua all the way to Ferrari and Lamborghini!
